Background[]
Natalia Ruzhkova, who was a scientist researching on Demons, started a project in which she used cells harvested from a certain greater demon to create human-demon hybrids known as Nadezhda. Natalia attempted many times to create Nadezhda as a way to bring upon a new age of coexistence between humans and demons and bridge the gap between them. She almost gave up due to many failed experiments until two Nadezhda that she created were born : Leyla and Klara. Natalia raised the sisters like her own daughters.
Valery Kaminski, joined the project as a ''volunteer'' to further Natalia's research. However, Kaminski, who mysteriously knew about the Nadezhda, secretly joined the project to use the Nadezhda's power to rule the world. In 1941, after Natalia discovered Kaminski's plans, she escaped with Klara and contacted the WLOF to warn them. The WLOF sent the Moscow Combat Revue to pick up Klara near Petrograd but Kaminski, who knew about it, arrived and attacked the Moscow Combat Revue's airship, killing the entire Revue in the process. Klara, who was waiting nearby, witnessed the attack and developed amnesia as a result. After that, Kaminski started a crusade to capture Klara and acquire her powers.

Nadezhda are born throught the use of cells from a certain ''greater demon''. While Klara and Leyla are shown to have a few abilities during the events of New Sakura Wars the Animation, it is possible that the full potential of their abilities has yet to be revealed. Due to the sisters holding the cells of a greater demon, it is heavily implied that Nadezhda have the power to destroy the world as Valery Kaminski stated several times that Klara could give birth to a new world.
