Appearance[]
Naoya is a young Japanese boy with short black hair and brown eyes. He is seen wearing a green yukata.
Personality[]
Naoya is a young boy who rarely show his emotions to other people. This is possibly because being a demon makes him feel distant from humans. When being confronted by two men he stole food from, the young boy growled in anger when one of them was taunting him. This means that Naoya was considering hurting the man should he be in danger.
After joining the orphanage, Naoya is seen as a calm boy due to being surrounded by other children who had nowhere to go just like him. He was shown to be friendly with Klara and even asked her to stay with them at the orphanage. He is also ready to find a missing friend even danger was near which shows his attachment with his friends.
Background[]
Not much is known about Naoya aside that he was born in Japan as a nameless demon boy and roamed around without a place to go. He also did a lot of bad things which included hurting people.
History[]
New Sakura Wars the Animation[]
Episode 2 : Identity Unknown! A Mysterious Foe Appears[]
Naoya appears in Tokyo where he tries stealing bread. After being pursued by two men, Naoya is cornered in a back alley. As one of the men approaches by taunting the boy, Naoya's eyes glow red with rage until a female voice tells the men to stop. A white-caped woman appears and grabs the boy before jumping back on the roof. White Cape gives the bread back to the man before running away with Naoya. As White Cape escapes, one of the men talks back by saying that the boy is still a thief even though he did not keep the bread.
Episode 6 : Strange and Bizarre! The True Identity of Black Cape![]
Now living at the orphanage, Naoya watches the other children interact with Klara when the young girl and Sakura Amamiya arrive at the orphanage temple. He then asks Hakushuu if she's the girl she mentioned to which Hakushuu nods.
When Black Cape attacks, Hakushuu orders Naoya to take Klara to a safe room and wait. Arriving there, both sit down while the others remain silent. Naoya says that before arriving to the orphanage, none of the children had a place to go before Hakushuu gave them a home. The young boy also comments that he used to do a lot bad things in the past. He asks Klara about staying at the orphanage with them as it could become her new home.
One boy comes over to Naoya to tell him that their friend Midori, who was cleaning out the annex, is missing and that she could still be over there. Naoya says that he will search for her. Klara says she will come with him but the young boy suggests that she stays there. Klara acknowledges that while she should stay in the room, she could help as she's a member of the Flower Division. The young boy asks her if she's sure. Klara nods in agreement with Naoya saying that it's not too late. Both Klara and Naoya exit the building in search of the missing girl.
After finding the missing girl, Klara and Naoya run back to the temple when a massive red explosion caused by a battle between the Flower Division and Black Cape occurs in the forest near the mountain. Seeing the explosion, Klara suddenly gets a past memory of herself watching the Moscow Combat Revue fall before her eyes. The tragic memory horrifies the young girl who screams in terror alerting Sakura and shocking Naoya. Klara falls down to her knees and could only immobilize her body in shock. Sakura exits her Mugen and hugs a teary Klara to comfort her as Naoya and the Flower Division look at them with a worried look.
Episode 9 : Unbelievable! The Truth About Klara![]
After Hakushuu brought an unconscious Klara to the orphanage, Naoya approaches to greet the girl. After the girl says that she could bring trouble to her friends if she returns to the Imperial Theater, the boy says that she should stay in the orphanage. Naoya approaches with his eyes glowing red, revealing his identity as a demon. Hakushuu proceeds to tell a surprised Klara that no children in the orphanage will ever judge her. While watching the other children, Klara deduces that the orphanage children are actually demons just like Naoya.
The young girl reveals her story about how she and Kaminski's henchwoman Leyla, who is her real sister, are actually human-demon hybrids known as Nadezhda. Both of them were created by the scientist Natalia Ruzhkova who has hoped that the Nadezhda will lead to a new age of coexistance between humans and demons. Despite the girls being half-demons, Natalia has cared and raised the sisters like her own daughters. All three were living happily until Kaminski approached and joined the project as a volunteer while promising Natalia that he will further her research. Unfortunately, Kaminski secretly desired to acquire the Nadezhda's powers to rule the world. To that end, Kaminski seduced Leyla into joining him and attempted to get Klara as well. When Natalia found out, she escape with Klara and contacted the WLOF to retrieve Klara and protect her from Kaminski. Klara went to meet up with the Moscow Combat Revue near Petrograd but the Revue's airship was shot down by Kaminski's forces. The airship fell down and was engulfed in an explosion that killed the Moscow Combat Revue and caused Klara to develop amnesia.
Klara fears that now that the Imperial Combat Revue knows about her true identity, they will try to kill her as it is their duty to destroy demons. However, Naoya and Hakushuu reveal that they are people like Natalia who desire for humans and demons to coexist and that it will take time for that world to become a reality. As Klara agrees that the Flower Division will accept her no matter what, Leyla lands at the orphanage after tracking down Klara.
As Leyla attempts to take Klara, Naoya moves between both girls and tells the older girl that she cannot take Klara. Unimpressed, Leyla uses her arm to send Naoya against a nearby wall. Naoya tries to get up but can only growl back with rage. Watching the young boy's eyes glow red, Leyla calmly reveals that she has always suspected Hakushuu's orphanage of housing demons. She also declares that she knows that not all the present children were demons and threatens to have the Moscow Combat Revue harm all of the present children should Klara not come with her. Leyla grabs Klara and runs away with the rest of the Moscow Combat Revue. Hakushuu tells Naoya to watch over the other children before running in pursuit of Leyla.
