Subaru Kujou (九条 昴, Kujō Subaru) is a former member of the European Star Division. She is currently a member of the New York Combat Revue's Star Division. She and Shinjiro Taiga are the only Japanese members of the Star Division.

Appearance

Subaru is an androgynous Japanese girl with short marine blue hair and black eyes. She's seen wearing a purple business suit with a red tie and purple shorts. She's always seen with a small black fan in her hand.

Despite being referred as a girl most of the time, Subaru's true gender is mysterious which is often discussed among her comrades. However, when Subaru is wearing feminine clothing such as an elegant dress, she can become quite stunning.

Her Star Division uniform is light purple. As a member of the Five-Rings warriors, Subaru has the Five-Ring mark on her back.

Personality

Subaru is a calm and collected person who doesn't speak much. She's seen as a cool and elegant girl who only speaks when she has something to say.

Due to her status as a genius, Subaru is highly intelligent and is able to deduce things that most people cannot easily see. However, this makes her distant from people including her own comrades. Because of her high intellect, she's a perfectionnist and expects many things from others and becomes insatisfied when her expections aren't met. This is shown when she reprimends Rikaritta for her flawed dancing despite her comrade being just a child. This causes her to see them as amateurs that don't deserve to share the stage with her.

Despite this, she truly cares for her comrades even though she's doesn't always show it. She had shed a tear when she believed Sagitta, Rikaritta and Diana died because of Tsugarubi's actions. While she was relieved to know that they were okay, she was embarrassed that they knew about her feelings.

Background

In her early years, Subaru was part of the European Star Division alongside Ratchet Altair, Orihime Soletta, and Reni Milchstraße. However, the ways and views of Ratchet, who was the captain, has caused several clashes with the members of the team which caused the dissolution of the team. She will later join the New York Combat Revue's Star Division and be reunited with Ratchet who is named Captain.

If the player chooses Subaru as Shinjiro's love interest, it is revealed Subaru is a reincarnation of the Nameless Nun, a member of the original Five-Ring Warriors who has been in a romantic relationship with Shinjiro's previous life Koya Hijiri before sacrifing herself to seal away Nobunaga.

History

Sakura Wars V: So Long, My Love

Chapter 1: A Samurai Makes His First Stand

In 1928, Subaru and Cheiron go to confront a monster that appeared in the New York Midtown while their Captain Ratchet was watching from afar.

Later on at the Theater, Subaru first appears on the Littlelip Theater's roof where she encounters Ratchet and Shinjiro Taiga who is happy to meet a fellow Japanese. While Shinjiro is wondering whether Subaru is a boy or a girl, the androgynous girl claims that gender is nothing more than a difference of organs and that Subaru is simply Subaru. When Ratchet mentions that Shinjiro comes from the Imperial Combat Revue, Subaru ambiguously claims that there is no way that Shinjiro can replace ''him'' which makes Shinjiro question who she could be talking about. Subaru then leaves the scene.

She later encounters Shinjiro in the dressing room where her comrade Cheiron confuses the young man for a visitor and tells him that he's not allowed here. When the Afro-American woman thinks Shinjiro is a fan desperate to meet her, Subaru introduces Shinjiro as the Theater's new employee. Thinking Sunnyside is illegally putting a minor on the payroll, Cheiron takes Shinjiro by his arm and decides to confront Sunnyside. While being taken away by Cheiron, Shinjiro tries to ask Subaru for help but is denied her assistance.
